Sounds like you know a lot more of the details than I. I remember
a few years back I was taking a training course in the AS/400.
The IBM teacher told us that the main competition to selling new
systems the used market. I seems obvious the way to over come that
is let the new machines run as fast as they can. I guess not to HP.

Apparently Mike is better suited to be a commodity broker than a
leader of a technology company.

I wonder why Compaq bought Digital, with proprietary VMS and Tandem
with proprietary Non-Stop Kernel NSK. I've talked to X-digital salesmen
who have told me they left because they were sick of seeing their
serious business customers being pushed toward PCs.

I can't say I'm against the what people are saying is Carly's stated
vision of being more like IBM, an end to end service company. But
actions speak loader than words and HP/Compaq is moving in the
opposite direction.

VMS and NSK is well placed in some big finacial companies and I've
been able to talk to number of these lately. They are looking at
migrating away from VMS and NSK, nervous because of what happened to
MPE. Not one is looking at Windows or Linux. MVS/390 is where they
are going. If HP wants the hi-margin business they better wake up
fast or IBM is going to eat there lunch right in front of them.
