Tom,

If memory serves me correctly then the e3000 is still managing the DTC. When
the DTC is power cycled it broadcasts its MAC address (with, I think, a
download request) on the network and the e3000 responds with the required
information. At least that is what we found back in 1998 when the company I
worked with moved from a Series/70 with 30 direct connect users to a 918LX
plus 3xDTC16's.

I've read that if you are going to one of the new computers and you are
using DTCs,
that you have to connect the DTC to your network, since the newer boxes
don't manage
DTCs anymore. That begs a question.

Whenever the power is reset on the DTCs, the HP always downloads some
information
to the DTCs. What exactly does that do? And what will replace that if the HP
is not
managing the DTC any longer?  TIA
