If you're doing nslookup, make sure to first specify
>set type=mx
Which is what a properly configured Internet mailer should do. Then if that
doesn't work, try >set type=a and issue the request again.

From our 3000, I get the following:

:run nslookup.util.sys
Default Server: tasha.3k.com
Address: 198.151.172.50

> set type=mx
> india.hp.com
Server: tasha.3k.com
Address: 198.151.172.50

Non-authoritative answer:
india.hp.com preference = 50, mail exchanger = fakir.india.hp.com
india.hp.com preference = 60, mail exchanger = cauvery.india.hp.com
india.hp.com preference = 100, mail exchanger = relay.hp.com

Authoritative answers can be found from:
india.hp.com nameserver = fakir.india.hp.com
india.hp.com nameserver = cauvery.india.hp.com
india.hp.com nameserver = relay.hp.com
india.hp.com nameserver = valmiki.india.hp.com
india.hp.com nameserver = hpmdd52.india.hp.com
fakir.india.hp.com internet address = 15.10.40.3
cauvery.india.hp.com internet address = 15.10.40.5
relay.hp.com internet address = 15.255.152.2
valmiki.india.hp.com internet address = 15.17.112.100
hpmdd52.india.hp.com internet address = 15.70.168.52
> exit

So, they're machines are set up just fine. 3 alternate MX entries, each of
which does have an A record. If you can't do the same lookup, then you may
have a nameserver problem. If the nameserver query works but you can't get
e-mail to them, then your mailer is mis-configured.

In a test from here, the first two choices both appear to be internal
machines (can't connect to them directly from here), so we go on to the
third choice (relay.hp.com) which connects right away.

(Mailers always try the lowest priority machine first (fakir) then attempt
the other machines in numerical/priority order til they either encounter
their own address on the list or run out of choices.)
