We use it on Mission Critical servers all the time with no ill-effects. It
won't replace ODBC or open Image database files, but for file sharing
between Windows systems and servers, and HP3000s, and other supported
platforms and file types, it's quite good.
Sharing printers is a nice feature as well :)

Depending on the type of file, make sure you're using the right editor. In
most cases, regular MPE editors out there will suffice, but if editing a
BIND Configuration File, you need to use VI, Qedit for Windows or some other
compatible editor.

Yes. Windows to MPE = Explorer. MPE to Windows, use the SMBCLIENT utility
in /usr/local/samba/bin/smbclient
