Hey Mark,

Actually I've installed several packages that use environment variables
on Unix that essentially do the same thing as MPE file commands. One big
difference of course is most things on MPE/IX support file equations,
and on Unix, your code would have to be written to do so.

Do they support all the features of file commands? No, not really, but
for being able to change the location of a given file, they work great.
