Yeah, that's the ticket. Install gnugroff. Magically "man whois" works. As
it happens, I was planning to install all the gnu stuff anyway.

BTW, we all owe a huge thank you to Mark Klein for his port of gnu to the
HP3000. I shudder to think where the HP3000 would be had Mark not taken on
this project on his own time. Actually, I do know. There would probably
still be an HP3000, but I there would not be an HP e3000, with all the
promise for the future it holds, on HP's price list.

yup :-)

yup (again :-)

(...and don't point fingers at stan...he's only the porter) whois 'assumes'
that nroff (what is 'nroff' anyhow?) is installed on your system. for 3000
folks, this means you've installed at least gnugroff. i suspect that you
also
need gnucore as well (any idea mark k.?). don't let this gnu requirement
put
you off. you can always run whois (the binary). having help is nice but
not
functionally necessary. otoh, (thanks to mark's hard work...) the gnu
packages
install quickly and smoothly and give a great number of 'shell'
toys...err...programs :-)

can't help you on this on. i suspect that 'help' is unique to mpe's
shell. - d
