This does not say what to do if patches have already been installed on top
of 6.0 PP-1. Do the patches need to be re-installed using the new AUTOLED
linker?

Subject: 6.0 Express 1 Alert -- Important

The following letter is being mailed to all customers who have received 6.0
Express 1:

=================================================

Dear Valued HP 3000 Customer:

Recently HP discovered a problem with autoled.install.sys (patch
installation linker) in MPE/iX Release 6.0 Express 1 (C.60.01 Express 1
PowerPatch). This has been characterized and a new released MPE Release 6.0
Express 1 is immediately available.

To keep you informed, we provide you with information on what to do when:

     1) MPE Release 6.0 Express 1 has already been installed on your
           system or factory pre-loaded
     2) MPE Release 6.0 Express 1 has not yet been installed on your
system, but you have requested the media.

1) What to do if MPE Release 6.0 Express 1 has Already Been Installed on
Your System

If you have already successfully installed MPE Release 6.0 Express 1, or if
your system was factory pre-loaded* with MPE 6.0 Express 1, please follow
the instructions outlined below before installing any new patches:

Visit the HP Information Technology Resource Center and download
     the latest version of Patch/iX

a). Point your web browser to http://itresourcecenter.hp.com

          b). Click on "Individual Patches."

c). Sign in with your user ID/e-mail address and password. If you
do not yet
have a user ID, use the "register now" link to create one.

d). Click on "MPE/iX Patches." At the top of this page, click on
the "MPE/iX
Patch Installation Guide." Under "Patch Installation Tools"
in the Overview
section, click on the "Patch/iX Page."

e). Use the instructions on this page to download and install the
Patch/iX
                tool set for your release.

Installing the latest version of Patch/iX on your HP 3000 system running MPE
Release 6.0 Express 1 will ensure that future patch updates to your system
will not be effected by the autoled.install.sys problem.

Note:

If you do not have access to the HP Information Technology Resource Center,
please request new MPE Release 6.0 Express 1 media from your Hewlett-Packard
support contact, referring to
     30216-11075 for DDS tapes, or
     30216-11076/30216-11077 for 6250bpi, reel tapes
          both with date code: 3951

* To determine if your system has the C.60.01 Express1 PowerPatch installed,
print the file HPSWINFO.PUB.SYS.

if line 4 shows "POWERPATCH C6001 P6", your system has MPE 6.0
              Express 1 PowerPatch installed.

2) What to do if MPE Release 6.0 Express 1 Has Not Yet Been Installed on
Your System

If you have not yet installed MPE Release 6.0 Express 1, please do not
install it. Request new MPE Release 6.0 Express 1 media from your
Hewlett-Packard support contact, referring to
     30216-11075 for DDS tapes, or
     30216-11076 / 30216-11077 for 6250bpi reel tapes,
          both with date code: 3951
.
==========================================================

I monitor comp.sys.hp.mpe daily, and I will be happy to respond to questions
or comments. I would prefer responding on the newsgroup (as opposed to
e-mail) -- by posting to the newsgroups, others will have the benefit of our
discussions.
