I'm as grumpy with HP as anyone lately, but they have gotten their act down
on being able to buy parts from them directly and installing them yourself.
I've primed HP's Parts Surfer web page at http://partsdirect.hp.com to the
HP8100 printer:
http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=modinfo&model=C4214A
From there you can select "mailbox components" in the Category box and
further search for the particular piece you want. If you press the little
picture icon at the left of each item brought up, you will get a very nice
schematic of the machine, virtually guaranteeing you will be ordering what
you want.
I recently had to change out the drive belt and motor in our $12,500 HP755CM
large-format printer, the one that printed the World's Largest Poster and
prints all of the calendars and posters now. The parts only cost me $60
combined and arrived in just a few days after I ordered them. All in all, I
was very impressed and quite pleased.
