What is the exact goal?

In the "Format Plus" and "rereading overwritten data..." threads, posters
mention various and extraordinary means whereby "overwritten" data on discs
can still be reread. If the goal is to make them unrecoverable by someone
with substantial knowledge and resources, that might be more involved. If
the goal is to quickly and easily make sure that whoever has these tapes
cannot just run RESTORE;LISTDIR or some such, a quick STORE of any small
file of your choice ought to do nicely. So would FCOPY and tar. And, if this
is an audit requirement, you get the benefit of being able to do any of this
in a job stream, so some auditor can smile upon your offering of a stack of
printed listings.

If the requirement is somewhere in between, such as the suggestion of
putting together a STORE (or FCOPY or tar) that entirely fills the tape with
something other than business data, well, fill in any missing details, and
someone will have some additional useful suggestions.
