Hey gang!
I've recently taken possession of an HP3000/980 (thanks Dave Debus!).
While I've been around 3000's for years, I've never been the hardware guy so
I'm looking for help.

Rich, I am almost done gathering what I can find as far as diagrams and
docs for that
machine. It isn't much but there are a few illustrations that
may help with plugging in
           boards

Can anyone point me to any documentation related to hardware
installation/configuration. (i.e. What's this board do?, where do I plug
this
cable. etc.).

Any good/cheap tape drive recommendations? Currently the box is minus a
tape
drive. (it's got several SCSI and fl boards)
A used DDS2 tape drive should cost about 400-500 USD

It has 9 HP6000 FL drives (1.3 gig). Do I want to use these or should I
just
go SCSI? Also any good drive/cheap drive recommendations?
As a reference point, a C3040T HP SE SCSI Mini-Tower with 7-2gb SE SCSI Disk
Drives
cost me about 3100 USD

Lower priority (since it's currently just holding down the slab in my
garage)
is hooking this up to a LAN. I've currently got a 10baseT (RJ 45 plug) peer
to
peer PC network running. How do I (Can I) hook up this box to this network?
What do I need hardware wise? It seems to have the 10base2 cable connector
which plugs into the lanic on the back of the 980. Can I just get an
adapter
from this cable to an RJ45 plug?
You already have the cards and MAU to hook up to a LAN. All you need is a
cheap hub
or adapter with a BNC connection and RJ45 port(s) and you are on your way
after
configuring the appropriate addressing in NMMGR. Call if you need help

Dave Debus

Thanks in advance!

Rich (hopefully soon to be developing no the best platform in the world!)
