We've been pursuing the possibility of renting a used HP3000 system for
a few months to accomplish our program and data conversion for Year2K
compatibility; however, we are unable to acquire rights to copy the HP
"optional" software (NS3000, compilers, etc.) and MPE/iX to the new
system temporarily unless we buy a new system. Obviously, a rental
would have been the easiest route for us, given that our development
system is already overtaxed with current development work and because
the need to frequently boot the system with the clock advanced, then
back again for testing purposes would disrupt other work in progress.
The effects on system logging, etc., were also a factor in our
decision.

Because this solution appears unlikely at this point, I'd like to ask
those of you who have already embarked upon this road have approached
this dilemma. Have you dedicated a system to this work, or have you
used your existing systems and made accommodation for other development
projects? To save bandwidth, please reply privately unless you feel
the list would benefit from your experience.

TIA,
