Could someone provide an overview of BOOTP? Obviously it's a protocol
(that looks after the "P") and it sounds like it's used to "BOOT" a
machine. But boot what? MS-DOS, UNIX, anything, ...?

I'm looking for an overview of what you use BOOTP for and a high-level
discussion of how it works. I'd also be interested in knowing what
operating systems typically come with BOOTP installed (UNIX? WinNT?
Other?). We know that MPE doesn't provide BOOTP, but it seems that
most third-party spooling packages give you BOOTP on MPE.

Please respond to me directly ([log in to unmask]) and I'll post
a summary/overview based on what I receive to HP3000-L.

Cheers,
