Fred describes his upgrade experience...........
>Hi,
>I felt the need to describe my experience. On Saturday I did a very
>successful upgrade to a 959/400 here in Cape Town:
>1. My tapes all verified OK before I started and I had no problems
Much stuff snipped...
The customer was my client, and Fred did the upgrade as part of the
local support.
I can verify that the upgrade went smoothly, and Lo! we are now enjoying
MPE/iX 5.5.
After verifying the my Cobol sockets program worked, the next thing we
did was load the Apache web server, then Samba.
All went according to plan.
Fred had warned me about the dreaded TT files (we tend to modify these
instead of pointing printers to our own), but I thought we had dropped
this bad habit. Sadly, I spent a few frantic minutes this morning trying
to get the printers (laserjets) to obey a decent default configuration.
But all is OK. After one full day, no users noticed a thing different.
But they will........ we are working on an HP3000 based intranet where
we can publish Quiz reports, and Samba opens vast new possibilities.
As Wavy Gravy said at Woodstock "We must be in Heaven, man!"
