I wrote COBOL for about 26 years off and on, I wrote it on the HP3000
and IBM. I was at a HP conference in Seattle in 1986. The HP guys said
that COBOL would be around for 20 years(They seemed disapointed).

As a language COBOL has no scope issues as all memory is present upon
load of the program. For those always fighting base and derived
classes, I can only pray for such a feature.

COBOL is a time tested language that has been enhancement over time.

It resembled the English language, not that I was ever good at English.
I enjoyed misspelling variable names. For those of you who have read my
code I misspelled the words in the comments too. I still misspell words
in the comments in other languages.

Now I chase thru curly braces to match them up.

I suspect COBOL will be running for a long time. I just did a search on
dice for the word COBOL and 730 jobs turned up. I still get called in
to someone's office and asked COBOL questions.

Happy Birthday
Kent

Except this is a 50th birthday party and that was a funeral?
