Everything you've written is undoubtedly 100% correct.  However, in this 
application, the records being processed are localized to one of our three 
plants, and there is only one person at each plant who *should* be 
mucking about with them.  Still not a 100% guarantee that no one will be 
reading/updating the record we want to lock, but close enough for 
government work.
