Regarding uses for Rolls for Thermal paper:
  Back during the 50th anniversary part for HP, I was working at the
Response Center in Mountain View.  We had a "paper" airplane competition.
There were two categories: Hang time and distance.  Since it was a windy
day, I taped a pair of wings to a roll of thermal paper & flung it like a
rock.  It won the distance competition!   Not quite the Wright brothers, but
....
