I just came back from Fred White's home, where we watched (via Fred's nice
satellite setup) this morning's first broadcast of The Executive Forum.

I could not believe it when I realized that they left out all the good
stuff from Adager's segment :-(

"Editing" is a tough task, I guess: An editor must decide what to leave IN
and what to leave OUT. They elected to leave out what, for me, is the
crucial material:

________________________________________________________________

Apollo 13, HP3000, IMAGE databases... They have a lot in common:

Reliability, resilience, a tremendous amount of attention to
detail, and a superb team of people behind them whose motto
is "Failure is not an option."

They elected to air what, for me, is just preliminary warm-up
getting-to-know-you informal conversation. We were just getting ready to
tackle the IMAGE and HP3000 material when, bingo, the segment ended in mid
air (no pun intended). I was shocked!

I guess that's what editors must do to fit the material into just a few
minutes. It is unfortunate that their selection criteria are totally
opposite from mine.

I distinctly remember that they asked me (as a "business leader", whatever
that means) to talk about my company (Adager Corporation) and its product
(Adager software). I told them it would be boring for me (and for their
audience) to talk about this kind of stuff and that it would be more
exciting to talk about the HP3000 and IMAGE in the context of being HP-s
best-kept secrets regarding high-availability, reliability, etc. Somehow,
they said, "yes"... I see that they stuck close to their original agenda
during the editing, probably thinking that they were doing me a favor...

I will contact them immediately to get a longer tape with the important
HP3000-oriented (and IMAGE-oriented) material that we covered during the
original filming of the show, back in January. As soon as I get the
information, I will work on making the much-more significant videotape
available to everyone.

Meanwhile, I'll add a warning note to the TV schedule web page,
