I hope you already got a solution in the meantime (you posted
this in November, I am catching up late on some messages in
the newsgroup, sorry.). If not, I thought this reminded me of
a problem that we had on 5.5 with non-Letter papertrays in
(non-US) HP printers when printing with banners (HEADON).

E.g. German customers using DIN A4 paper always had to press
'Continue' on their Laserjets for headers/trailers.

On 5.5 we solved this with patch MPEJXC1, on 6.0 we made
the paper_size for headers and trailers a new NPCONFIG
item, as described in the 6.0 version of the Native Mode
Spooler Reference Manual:

---------------------------------------------
default_page_size

If this value is 26, then the A4 page size is selected
for the Banner. Default is set to 2 which is Letter.

default_page_size = 1 # for EXEC page size

default_page_size = 2 # for LETTER page size

default_page_size = 3 # for LEGAL page size

default_page_size = 26 # for DIN A4 page size
---------------------------------------------

The numbering is in correlation with the escape sequence
used for selecting the paper size.

If you are not using headers/trailers (HEADOFF ldev)
then your problem is different to what I described above.

Hope this helps,

Goetz.
