One easy way to tell if someone is feeding you a line of bull is to simply 
see if anything they're telling you is a bit of bull hockey. If they are, you 
have to doubt the whole load. In this case, the telling date is 1955, because:

     o Sputnik was launched on October 4, 1957
     o NASA wasn't created until October 1, 1958
     o Johnson Space Flight Center was opened in September, 1961

There were no astronauts in 1955, and of course none of them were in Houston 
at the time.
