We've been experiencing some sporadic performance problems lately.
Generally when I use GLANCEXL I see that there are anywhere from 1 to 3 or
so HPDADVR processes which have been spawned off by the HPDARPA job. These
appear to be pretty CPU intensive processes, and since the HPDARPA job runs
them in the CQ having multiples of them running plays havoc with system
performance! I suspect that these are COGNOS Impromptu sessions accessing
our Image/SQL databases via ODBC, however I have not found a way to link a
user/Impromptu session to an individual HPDADVR process. I would like to
do this so that I can check with the user and see what exactly they are
trying to accomplish and if we can find a way to assist them in designing a
more efficient query. Anybody know if/how this can be done? Also, does
anybody know of a way to automatically "throttle" the HPDARPA job back in
these cases so that it doesn't allow a process to take over the system? I
can do it manually with ALTPROC, but an automatic throttle would be nice.

Gary
