Steve,

the Posix Shell on 5.5 unfortunately has lots of file permissions
set wrong i.e. "other" lacks read access on many files/directories.
You can find details how to fix it (and several other nice tips on
Posix Shell and setup) in a "recent" posting of Michael Hensley
from Lund (at that time).

Check out the HP3000-L archives on Raven and search for POSIX in the
subject and michaelh in the author's email address. I recently found
it successfully this way.
