Thanks for the speedy replies everyone, here's some more info:

MPE/iX 60.00
the PARM=-1 option didn't work
we were able to do a <Ctrl-A> at the console and restart the system.  It
seems to be running fine right now but I have no idea what caused the
problem (which bugs the hell out of me :->). We're in wait to see if it
happens again mode now :(
