There is a solution, I don't know if it is elegant or not; but here it goes:
When a tape is mounted, it shows up in the SHOWDEV command. Since I don't
have direct access to a 3000 anymore, I don't know the exact format, but
you could probably find out for yourself. Also a '(W)' will appear if
the tape is write enabled. This feature was added to 5.0. With this
information, you could do a SHOWDEV command to a file and then parse the
file. My CI programming is rusty, so I'll let you figure it out, or
someone else will come along and help out.
