As far as my vague memories go (and I haven't looked at the Samba
source code lately, especially the pre-2.x one ;-) the printing
will only work if guest account matches the user ID that the SMBD
server job is run under.

There are some setuid() and/or setgid() calls in the printing code
that check for success or failure with getuid() and/or getgid() but
this fails at some point because UID and GID cannot be changed in-
dependently (on MPE Posix). Turning "debug level" to a very large
value should give some hints in log.smb (but that won't help you).

Either make job logon and guest account identical for the printers,
or delve into the source code to fix this issue (or submit a service
request at your HP RC if on 6.0 ;-)

I have never tried this myself (as I am happy with the supplied
sample config with just a few minor tweaks ;-) but it might be
possible to set a different "guest account" in the [global] and
[printers] sections...

Lars.
