Denys,

I sent an email to UltraEdit support on Friday afternoon. I got an answer back very quickly. They even asked me questions about what was wrong, the LIST output format they were getting from MPE, etc. I'm now on the UE 14.20 Beta program and should be getting a beta version soon. I'll post to this list when I get my hands on it.

I'm impressed with UE's response.

Thanks...François

So, I went poking in UE14.00a and I came up with this.

Understanding that I have been using UE for 4 years, my setup has been
pretty much set over a long period of time. In the FTP account manager, I
noticed that for the HP3000s that I access, I use UNIX as the server
platform in the advanced tab. I remember there was one called HP3000/Vesoft
Security, but it didn't work right some years back (probably even as far
back as 11.20.) So I us UNIX and that works fine for my needs, remembering
that the size displayed is the FLIMIT, than many files will have an asterisk
at the beginning and that opened files may even have 2. These things are
easily cleaned up and you can get your file(s) quickly, though the sort
order may throw you for a loop.

So, this morning, I tried the HP3000/Vesoft Security again, just for fun,
and now I can even log on to the HP3000s. This feature is definitely broken
now, but completely broken. I set it back to UNIX and it works like a
champ.

I do remember sending an email to UE some years back detailing the problem,
but I didn't hear back and really don't much care as it works well enough
for me. However, since the feature is broken now, perhaps I should point it
out to them again and get them to fix it.

I knew Roy used UE, I wasn't sure is anyone else here does and if it would
be worthwhile to fix this. Perhaps it is now.

BTW, for those of you migrating to UNIX platforms and who dread having to
use Vi, UE is your friend. It is inexpensive and it has a lot of features,
especially for programmers. (It helps me when I program in C.) I recommend
it highly, even if you are homesteading.

Denys...

Roy,

We are using UE 11.20 and that problem is there. UE expects the filename in
the n'th field. It works fine with files without a filecode/mnemonic. If
there's a filecode/mnemonic, it uses the max. extents "MX" field up to the
end of the line as the filename. So you end up with names like "* A", "32
B".

Thanks...François

Last time I looked, UE wasn't getting HP3000 LISTFILEs quite right. Is
that fixed now?
