I stored the files using @[log in to unmask]@. This worked fine for both MPE and HFS files, but when I use the same thing on the restore it did not restore all of the HFS files and directories(including for JINETD). When I restored using "/" both MPE and HFS restored just fine. Where the big problem lies is in any HFS files that are not kept in an MPE group. @[log in to unmask]@ will not restore these. It did restore those that were stored in an MPE group. We use HFS extensively in both forms, and so I appreciate the info. Thanks

I have had problems in the past with getting HFS files back with @[log in to unmask]@ in
the restore. I have had to do the [log in to unmask]@.@ to get the HFS files back. We do
a lot of HFS files stuff. Whilst the excerpt you included points out @[log in to unmask]@
and / as being equivalent when used to specify the files to include in the
restore, I have been bit in the past.

I also wanted to highlight the fact / and @[log in to unmask]@ are not synonymous in all
instances.

In my answer, I had postulated that the original restore had been done using
@[log in to unmask]@. According to the help this would have restored all files, MPE-named
and HFS. But it obviously didn't hence this thread. Therefore my answer of
[log in to unmask]@.@ is the accurate one.

So perhaps it would seem that whilst @[log in to unmask]@ will indeed pickup all the files
on the store, witness John's ultimately successful restore of all files,
something is amiss on the restore side of the equation, to wit @[log in to unmask]@ does
NOT restore all files contrary to documentation.

John would be the one to tell us how he did the original restore. Perhaps
he did selected accounts, which would have left out any root-based
directories but would have restored all account-based HFS files. However, he
would have known that and would have restored these directories by himself.

Then again, it could be something else,

Denys

Denys,

If I understand you correctly you seem to distinguish between @[log in to unmask]@
and / in the RESTORE command. According to the following excerpt
from HELP RESTORE there is no difference when they are used in the
include portion of the fileset.

MPE and HFS Naming Equivalences

When the MPE filename component is a single "@"
wildcard, the "@" will be "folded" to include all
MPE and HFS named files at that level and below.
To specify only MPE-named files, use "?@" instead.

MPE wildcards are not expanded in filestoexclude.
This means that @[log in to unmask]@[log in to unmask]@.@ is NOT an empty
fileset. It contains all of the HFS named files
                    on the system.

A fileset may be entered in any of the following
formats and may use wild card characters.
Equivalent MPE and HFS formats are grouped
                    together.

... snip

                    @[log in to unmask]@
/ All the files and directories (MPE and
                              HFS) in the system.

Take care,
Frank
