This could disrupt sites that use Java or Shockwave/Flash.  Most others
should not be affected.  There's a good site at
http://www.computerbytesman.com/906patent/ with links related to the issue.
I think the reactions on the w3 mailing list back in 1995 are especially
interesting:


There is so little substance to the patent (http://tinyurl.com/jqpg).
There's no protocol, no API, no algorithm, just the idea of having an
embedded tag create an area within the web-browser window where an external
program can provide an interactive experience.
