<<Does anyone know why the HPC compiler does not let me use HFS named
source files? This is on MPEiX 5.5 PP4. I was poking around to see how C89
allows it and found that it passes an undocumented? -Ap option to the
compiler. Does anyone know the whole story?>>

The "whole story" is that HP has stated that they have no intention of
updating/enhancing C/iX. Not to take advantage of new capabilities on their
own platform like HFS, and not even to keep up with additions to Standard C.
I pointed out at IPROF that this position means that, over time, C/iX will
become a non-conforming implementation, and Randy Roten agreed that that is
where C/iX is headed. His hands appear to be tied pretty thoroughly, so the
future of C/iX doesn't look too good at the moment.
