give this a try...

:setvar x "a"+ rht(("0"+"!hpmonth"),2) + rht(("0"+"!hpyear"),2)
:showvar x
X = a0299

i know hpmonth, being a number, doesn't have a leading zero -- hence all the
'rht' business above.  i can only assume that hpyear has the same behavior.
i guess will find out soon enough :-)         - d
