If you are having trouble with an external HP JetDirect box, and have
never successfully printed spoolfiles from MPE (using the HP supplied
network print spooler), ensure that the parallel cable connecting the HP
LaserJet to the JetDirect is an IEEE-1284 (nibble mode) bi-directional
cable.

If it is any other type of parallel cable, replace it with an IEEE-1284
cable and try it again.

Turning off PJL in the spooler is a poor workaround for not being able to
get status information back from the printer because the cable is not
correct.
