I am still experimenting with DDS2 and 3 MPEiX tapes although
presently I am using a Linux system and dd to try and copy them.
Does anyone here have any experience in creating a disk image of a
dds2 tape on a linux system using dd to transfer? How does one
handle the problem of the last block if it not exactly 32768?
I am getting a kernel error (kernel: st1: Incorrect block size.)
when trying to copy a CSLT to a linux disk and my research
indicates that the error message I receive is symptomatic of an
incomplete block.
I realize that this is somewhat off-topic but the reason I am
conducting this research is to see if there are ways of using linux
systems to archive HP3000 tapes and recreate them at will. It is
not necessary to read the contents of those tapes on the Linux
systems, only to be able to place the image back onto a tape that
an HP3000 can read.
Regards,
Jim
