Thank you for your response.

MGET is in fact not suitable for retrieving multiple files from the Big
iron. It's sibling GET needs to be used and destination file name specified
after the source file name. The FTP was invoked from the
HP. Quotes are needed because as a default, FTP assumes user is looking for
his/her personal files, and sticks the users RACFID as a prefix , meaning
it starts looking for the users personal files on Big Blue. As a side note
it may be a good idea to invoke it from the HP by staying in your home
ACCOUNT.GROUP v/s doing a PUT from the IBM where it may not be able to
recognise the ACCOUNT.GROUP structure of the remote computer, our beloved
HP3000 in this case.

Hello!
Confirming that destination file names cannot be specified with
mget.
cd to the concerned directory of IBM and then do
mget * (or whatever the IBM FTP syntax). That should do the trick.
More information like what 'XYZ.NEWPDS.PDS(AA1000X)' is, which
is the "wild card" in that, why it is given in quotes (IBM FTP
syntax, possibly?) what version of FTP/iX is used, etc., might
help in understanding the problem better.
Best regards,
