A couple of years ago our local cable company changed-out all the coax for
fibre.  They now offer cable modems and direct connections at $50/month,
unlimited usage.  Its advertised at > 1MB speeds.  While I haven't bitten
yet, a friend has and from what I've seen, it really flies!  Clearly a lot
less expansive than the cost of ISDN or your own T1/fractional T1!
