I think you'll find Unix has problems with these filenames, too.
If the CD is mounted on a HPUX system, try mounting the cd with the -o
cdcase option of the mount command to surpress the version numbers and
to use lowercase names. I'm not sure how to do this on other Unix
flavors.
If the cdcase option doesn't work, you may need to mount the CD with the
pfs command (see man pfs) for help.
