I've had success on occasion, Mark, but many more disasters...deleting and adding a tape back with new parms seems to be one of those "holding your mouth right", ie., unpredictable results adventures.

I'd make the config change then reboot over a weekend or whenever time permits...takes more time, but it works every time.

I've never had luck adding or removing tape drives with IOCONFIG. If someone is successful doing this, please share the secret.

I have a program. It may be contributed or it may have been third party or TELESUP called AUTOREP. You run it with PARM=xx where xx is the LDev of the tape drive and it autoreplies to the next request. If someone knows where this came from... with permission, I'd be happy to share it.

Ioconfig with DD followed by another IOCONFIG with AD and the correct mode?

(Never tried it on a tape but seems plausible .)
