I had told him that scraping the platters would be the only 
sure fire method if there was a security concern.  

To get a working system to a museum he would have to replace 
the drives from a 'used' source and reinstall the system.
For that he may need only one or two disc drives.

(Hopefully the used 'source' would be a commercial concern 
and not a government one, like his.  Otherwise he may be 
substituting someone else's sensitive data, for his.)

This could of course be also beneficial to a HP reseller by 
the name of <plug>Insert Used HP Equipment Vendor Here</plug>.
