Peter,

It appears that you or a colleague have already opened a Technical
Assistance
Request (TAR) for this problem, so I will try to update you, the TAR, and
the
HP3000-l list residents with one message. You are seeing symptoms of bug
566825, a known problem in the version of the Gateway you are using. One
way
to work around this problem is:
 - build an Oracle instance with a 7-bit character set such as US7ASCII
 - issue the Gateway query from this Oracle instance
 - and do not set any Oracle NLS parameters or environment variables
The Oracle instance will then pass the characters through to the client
without trying to do any NLS conversions. I know it seems counter-intuitive
but it does work.

This bug and several others are fixed in the just-released Oracle
Transparent
Gateway on HP3000 for IMAGE/SQL and ALLBASE Release 4.0.1.0. The new
release
adds quite a bit of functionality including full support for Gateway access
to
ALLBASE as well as IMAGE/SQL DBEs (hence the minor name change). Please
consider upgrading to this release soon. The Transparent Gateway for
IMAGE/SQL Release 3.0.15.4 you are running was superseded some time ago and
no
new patches are being generated for it.

Thanks,
Scott A. Burdman
