I believe the highest spending per student is in Washington, DC with the
commensurate dreadful results in academic achievement.

If you look at this link, you will notice that Norway and Sweden are
considered the 'Most Livable' countries in the world. The USA is a
respectable 8th. Based on recent arguments, this order of listing
should be
impossible. Take Sweden, who has some of the highest taxes in the world
and
one of the largest 'nanny' states, yet still has a successful society.

You take the US, with a different approach of extremely low taxes and
very
little government support, yet it still does reasonably well in the
scheme
of things.

Surely this shows that no one way of government and social attitude is
the
right way. Both can work. This idea from some people that some how
Socialism or Capitalism is the great evil, it's always about balance, no
one
way is right.

------------------------------

I wonder what criterion they were using to make this determination?
I know I would rather live in the warm climate of Greece, Cyprus or
Malta, than cold-ass Iceland Norway or Sweden.

'Extremely low taxes' HUH? You are barking up the wrong tree Mr
Barker.

It is not about Socialism or Capitalism, but about government control or
freedom. Government control is the evil, at least too much of it.

Oh and Mr Baier? As far as the schools are concerned, what needs to
happen
is the US Government needs to take control of the DC schools system, and
make it a shining example of what a school system should be, then the
local
communities will WANT to be like that and try to emulate it. This would
absolve the need for a Department of Education and Federal meddling in
matters which are none of their business.
