I'm beginning to wonder if I'm the only one that has slow restores on DLT
when doing selective files restores. When we do our disaster recovery, we
always recovery SYS first. One because it has editor and all necessary
files, and two, because I have two groups in there (BULDJOB1 and BULDJOB2)
that contain files to create each account on my system (and the system
itself). Once I get this account restored, I can recreate my system and
restore everything. Since selective restores take so long (up to 1 1/2
hour) and I have up to 4 DLT tapes (two tapes each on two paths) and I don't
have a $STDLIST since this is a disaster, it's nice to know that SYS is
first.

The exclusion of the SYS account from the second fileset does not
prevent
the SYS account files from being stored twice - STORE is smart
enough to
        know not to.

What is does do is prevent the cluttering of the syslist with a line
or two
for each file in the SYS account indicating "file not stored, in use
by
another store process" or to that effect.

Incidentally, having said that STORE is smart enough to prevent the
same
file from being stored twice to the same tapeset, I have seen a
duplicate
file on either the 6.0 or 6.5 FOS tape - I don't recall which.

I thought to myself at the time - how could that have happened? Must
be
some undocumented "feature" of STORE used in the HP labs.

In any case, I did confirm that the file was duplicated on the tape
by
using VSTORE, after noticing that the second occurance of the file
was not
restored because it already existed. In the context of that restore,
it
didn't make sense, so I ran VSTORE and was dumfounded to see the
file
        twice consecutively on the tape.

Someone else had mentioned that an advantage could be gained in
situations
where there was a multi-volume backup.

Perhaps, if you make the assumption that you would want to restore
files
from SYS more often than, say, files from your PROD or TEST account.

Even so, and even if your backup was multi-volume, it's usually
pretty easy
to determine which volume your files reside on by scanning the
listing or
        file containing it.

Another reason I prefer the simplicity of using the "/" fileset, is
that
it's more difficult to accidentally contruct a fileset that
unintentionally
        excludes something.
