   FWIW...We had a similar problem recently on one of our boxes.... turned
out the modem had gone bad... (it was one of the old 2400 HP modems with the
DIP switches on the side ...) we got a new one from HP and had the CE set
the registers (that was an interesting time (as in the Chinese Curse hehe))
and everything went back to normal...

    The error we were getting was CTL (17) Cannot FOPEN port on LDEV 21 ....

I have a similar problem with Ldev 21. When I do a SHOWDEV, the device shows
that it exists; however, I get a cryptic error every morning when Predictive
Support
runs that says there is an unrecognized port at Ldev 21. When I attempt to
run
SYSDIAG then TERMDSM, it tells me the ldev is not configured. Even my CE
seems
to be stumped and he says he has another customer with the same problem. The
CE
says the ldev IS configured. Something is wrong.....obviously.

We are on a 979/400 running MPE/iX 5.5 pp7. Predictive ran fine until we
migrated
to this box and powerpatch. (We had a 987/200 before.

Jim,

What this probably means is that Predictive IS running and trying to
exchange data with HPRC. However, since your ldev 21 is hung, predictive is
unable to open the port.

You can check to see if Predictive is currently running in
:PSCONFIG.PRED.SYS. To stop a current run you can try:

   :run psconfig.pred.sys;info="STOP"

or you can just run PSCONFIG and navigate the menus.
