Have just discovered something totally irrelevant. If you connect to your
favourite HP3000 via VT-MGR and type "bye" (without the quotes), then
your
session is immediately disconnected - type anything else (except a valid
hello
command) and you get an error message.

Little things please little minds eh.

Nothing unusual about that it is documented and works the same on DTC
connected terminals. Here is a snipped of the :help bye text.

OPERATION

This command terminates a session and displays the CPU time
used (in seconds), connect time (in minutes), the date and
     time, as follows:

     CPU=48. CONNECT=35. FRI, MAY 4, 1992, 10:56 PM

If you enter a HELLO command before logging off, MPE/iX
terminates your current session and immediately initiates a
new one. If you are logged onto the computer with a
telephone connection and you hang up before terminating
your session, MPE/iX issues a BYE command automatically.

If you enter the BYE command before initiating a session
on the system, no system message is displayed.

This command may be issued from a session. It may not be used
from a job, program, or in Break. Pressing [BREAK] has no effect
     on this command.
