There are lots of peculiarities to the 3000's SNMP software... I've been
working with the HPRC for several months trying to get it all working
correctly. I did manage to code a command file which sends a trap that
OpenView will recognize though... It doesn't come through as the trap I
expected it to (the SNMP/iX agent on the 3000 does some mucking with trap
numbers you specify) but I was able to configure the event in OV NNM and get
it to act on it. Give me a call or email tomorrow and I'll dig up the
command file and HPRC call that documents some of what we had to go through.

Beware also; we installed the latest SNMP/iX patch on one of our systems
while working with the HPRC and trying to get it all working, and ended up
having to disable SNMP on that machine while HP works on a fix. Among other
problems, the SNMP agent doesn't know how to read a 100Mb Lan card, so only
returned the MAC address of our internal 10Mb card to OV NNM... providing it
with an IP address/interface that's not accessible to the rest of the
network (in our case - we only use the 10Mb card to hang a DTC on) and
causes NNM to constantly flag the system as having an unreachable interface,
AND constantly generates complaints from all our switches and routers that
the MAC address THEY report for the 3000 doesn't match what the SNMP MIB on
the 3000 says it is. :-(

                Subject: [HP3000-L] SNMP Question

                Hello All,

I am trying to send a SNMPTRAP to OpenView Network
Node Manager
version 6.1 running on Solaris. I have the SNMP i/X service
running and was
able to SNMPWALK from OpenView. OV is not receiving the
trap and now I can
not even get a response from the MIB in doing a SNMPCONTROL
STATUS. Is
there anyone who is using SNMP i/X? I am testing this on a
995/400 with 5.5
                PP7 + .

                        Thank You,
                        Dane Bodamer
