Not sure if I understand this correctly. I always assumed that
different PCs might be logged in as the same user name but would
at least have to have unique node names.

You might be able to use "bin/nmblookup -a 1.2.3.4" from the
Samba package, with 1.2.3.4 being the respective PC IP addr.
This typically shows the registered NetBIOS names (node+user).

In smb.conf you can use %m macro for the client PC NetBIOS name.
This can be used for fancy things like "separate logfile per PC"
or "different config include sections per PC".

Won't help with "hosts allow" or "hosts deny", though. I believe
that those commands need NetBIOS names or IP addresses listed.
