Another idea (far from being ideal)...

One might wrap the REPLY into a UDC with some additional commands
to record the device selected and then ask the operator to not use
Ctrl-A REPLY or :REPLY but the "BACKUPREPLY" UDC (maybe by TELLOP
inside the backup job to remind him).

As I said... far from being ideal.
