The file's label could be corrupt.
Run "fscheck.mpexl.telesup" when you are the only user on the system.
Then use the "checkall all" command.
It will report any corrupt files and ask you if you want to delete them.

I've found that rm from the POSIX shell will even purge files being
accessed.

What about using RM.  That seems to work around many MPE issues.
