I think the comment about foreign cars also shows the lack of
knowledge many folks have....  I don't recall the actual
percentage, but so long as any car has something like 65% of
its parts produced in the U.S., can be designated as American
made, per federal law.  In reality, there are probably no
%100 American cars, only original American car names.....

John's comments about refinery capacity is very true.  Its been
over 10 years since any major refining capacity has been added
in the U.S., while on the other hand, capacity has been shut down
due to regulation.  More and more refined products indeed come from
external sources.  Its similar to California's power generation
issue, only a larger scale and taking longer to manifest itself....
Those companies that elect to re-build their existing capacity are
subject to much more expensive regulations while foreign produces
are not and will be able to refine/ship product here at less cost.
What happens when these foreign producers, mostly government owned,
decide to raise prices or disagree with foreign policy....?
