Still far short of the six (or more) digits regarding the number of IMAGE
databases out there in real-life OLTP production work, but not too shabby
:-)
Now, if we can get the Oracle folks to mention the great things that IMAGE
databases can do for their clients in terms of raw power and economy for
those pesky OLTP applications, we'll be in business :-)
Hint:
Remember my public question to Oracle back at the
beginning of 1994 in New York ("How much does it cost me to run
an Oracle database for 100 concurrent OLTP users?") They felt
"offended" by my question because it was obviously loaded
to reflect the unbelievable competitive advantage of IMAGE on
the HP3000 under MPE/iX :-)
Why can't current Oracle customers using common platforms such as Unix, NT,
etc., *ALSO* have a super-specialized HP3000 running IMAGE under MPE/iX for
their most challenging OLTP tasks? This would increase the sales of
Oracle's Transparent Gateway for IMAGE/SQL and would make it the BEST
selling Oracle gateway (I have never known Larry Ellison to settle for
second best; his aggressive moves regarding the Macintosh prove this).
(D)Evillishly and (Mac)hiavellically yours,
