Must this list be 'a mirror of a "newsgroup" called COMP.SYS.HP.MPE?

List-server-ignorant here, but this passed mildly annoying last week!

Indirectly, yes, and therefore the answer to the second question is "no".
This list is actually a mirror of a "newsgroup" called COMP.SYS.HP.MPE.
Since newsgroups are (generally) unmoderated, *anyone* can post *anything*
at *anytime*.  There are some folks who make use of "cancelbots" to
automatically cancel undesirable posts, but that is not without it's own
problems (mainly, the cancels are undesireable to the person running the
'bot, not neccessarilly to the list or newsgroup at large...)

From some of the threads in the last two days, there was an obscure mention
of a gateway problem with the newsgroup mentioned above -- this was only
"solved" recently, so perhaps more is "filtering in" than had in the past...

Again, the newsgroup mirror kind of makes this impossible...
