Still, I would recommend a backup before doing anything so intrusive
into your production environment.  What if there is some kind of problem
with the VA?  You may or may not see it happen during a copy.  I would
strongly recommend a backup before doing something with the potential
downside that this represents.  Assuming you do the backup, not only
will you have the data backed up, you will be able to validate the
quality of your backup be immediately restoring on the VA system.  To
me, this is too good a combination to pass up.

My 2 Cents.

First get connectivity to the VA7100.

1) Create new volume set
2) veaudit copyaccts with new, slightly different names  /* This will
build the account
structure*/
3) get multiple processes doing an MPEX copy @[log in to unmask]
   minimum number of processes would depend on the number of processors.

** (watch out for message files.)

Once the copies are done

1) MPEX rename...    it will be fast

All done, in less time than a backup.
