I keep hearing about the "forced migration", but I still do not believe
that this has to be the case. HP made their decision and their
RECOMMENDATION is to migrate. You and I may agree or disagree with the
decision and/or recommendations, but that not the point. I know there is a
number of companies that will not migrate because they either can't afford
to or they can't find an application that fits there needs as well as the
one they have created or purchase on the 3000. I also know there are a
number of companies out there that, with all things being equal, would
prefer to stay right were they are, in spite of the HP decision to no longer
support MPE beyond 2006 - IF MPE CAN BE SUPPORTED (read maintained and
enhanced) BY SOMEBODY ELSE AND A HARDWARE PLATFORM IS AVAILABLE GOING
FORWARD (read licensing of MPE for hardware not originally manufactured as
an e3000).

If your company falls into one of these two categories, then you need to
let HP know and you need to get involved in the OpenMPE movement. At this
point there are absolutely no guarantees it will make a difference for the
better, but if you don't blend your company's voice with the others of
similar feelings, then it can make a difference for the worse. Either way
your company is influencing the future. The question is "Which direction do
your want your influence to go?"

Just my 2 cents worth (maybe a little less),
        Jon Backus

I was just talking to one of my consulting clients about the forced
migration away from MPE.
